Pesso-Boyden System of Psychotherapy (PBSP)
Felicity Grace has completed PBSP Foundations training and now offers sessions using this therapy system to repair attachment.
Al Pesso Boyden’s Trauma Solution is recognised as one of few interventions that effectively repairs disorganised attachment, resolves extreme early childhood trauma and heals adult experiences of intrusive post-traumatic stress.
PBSP is known as Pesso-Boyden System of Psychotherapy in the UK and Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor in the USA.
PBSP is best known from a core chapter in The Body Keeps the Score: Mind, Brain and Body in the Healing of Trauma (2015) by Bessel van der Kolk.
He wrote “It is one thing to process memories of trauma, but it is an entirely different matter to confront the inner void – the holes in the soul that result from not having been wanted.”(p296)
If you have grown up unwanted, unseen, unable to speak the truth, unsafe in a confusing atmosphere of secrecy and fear, loathed or ignored it is a challenge to develop a real visceral sense of self, self-worth and agency. PBSP has the ability to witness, fill, organise and heal this most intimate sense of self.
Bessel wrote of the impact of his first experience of PBSP work as Al Pesso Boyden restructured his inner perspective of his parents: “Instantaneously I felt a deep release in my body – the constriction in my chest eased and my breathing became relaxed.”(p299)
